Into The New Year
Looking back, the year has been one of learning, experimentation and gradual shifts in practice.
Supported by an Arts Council England DYCP award, I spent the first half of the year undertaking three short courses across different areas of my work. Each offered an opportunity to step outside familiar ways of making, test new ideas and spend time developing skills that continue to influence my approach.
Since then, the focus has moved towards bringing those experiences together. Alongside developing my online shop, I have been spending time at the loom, exploring weaving as an extension of earlier textile works and investigations into material, texture and colour.
Many of the pieces now emerging draw from several strands at once: lessons learned during the DYCP period, successful experiments from previous projects, and ideas that have continued to surface through making.
What began as separate areas of enquiry have gradually become more connected. Threads from past work continue to reappear in unexpected ways, finding new forms, scales and materials. The loom has become another way of exploring those relationships slowing the process down, allowing ideas to unfold through repetition, texture and touch.
