Socks, sandals & a massive bunch of lilies.
Salvaging lilies that are not allowed to be sold in supermarkets because they are not perfect.
Using these blooms in my large loom installation from the 21st-24th July at Secret Garden
Party Festival.
Created especially for the festival, this immersive installation transformed a mountain of "imperfect lilies into a large-scale woven environment.
The work explored ideas of value, waste and beauty, questioning the standards we place on nature and the things we create.
Each day of the festival I worked into the piece, weaving hundreds of salvaged lilies into the loom.
As the flowers opened, faded and softened, the installation changed with time, celebrating imperfection, ephemerality and the cycles of growth and decay.
Visitors were invited to step inside the structure, take in the fragrance, watch the weaving evolve and consider the stories behind the flowers: perfectly good stems that would otherwise have gone to waste.
Secret Garden Party is a four-day arts and music festival known for its commitment to creativity, community and sustainability. Being part of this rich and imaginative environment was a joy, and the installation became a meeting place for conversation, reflection and connection.
